Young Voice Reimagined
Pikes Peak Opera League’s Young Voice Competition has a long history of encouraging and helping high school singers advance vocally and musically. PPOL is moving from a competition format to an education format for students needing financial support. Many Pikes Peak Opera League members have expressed a desire to support aspiring young singers. We hope this scholarship program inspires you to continue contributing to talented youth.
PPOL is developing an educational scholarship program for outstanding young singers between 14 to 18. Music teachers in Pikes Peak area high school, private school, charter school and home schools will recognize and encourage their outstanding singers to apply to our scholarship program. Students will send an application and a two minute song selection to the Young Voice Chairman. An opportunity for these singers to work with three area voice teachers in a workshop setting will be Saturday, November 11, 2023. Each teacher will select a student to receive scholarship lessons scheduled from December through February. These three students will sing for the March 2024 meeting. The students and their teachers will provide an open forum for questions about the process.

Dear Music Educators:
Pikes Peak Opera League (PPOL) is sponsoring a Young Voice educational opportunity for students between the ages of 14 and 18. Please recommend interested student(s) with outstanding vocal ability who wish to pursue their interest in vocal arts and who are not taking private voice lessons.
Recommended students will submit the enclosed application plus a 2 minute video singing a folk song of their choice via email to Trudy Fennewald , committee chair, mtfenn1@gmail.com anytime upon receiving the application and no later than Monday, September 11, 2023. 10 to 15 applicants will be selected for a Master Class to be held November 11, 2023. Applicants will be notified of their selection for the Master Class by September 18, 2023.
Selected students will prepare two songs (one chosen by the committee) for the November 11th Master Class to sing for three voice coaches at the designated site. The coaches will then provide constructive written and oral feedback.
Three students will be chosen from the Master Class to receive a series of sponsored voice lessons between January and March 2024. These students will perform 2 songs each at the PPOL meeting on March 6, 2024.
